iTRACE is radically transforming the monitoring of Travel Plans and enables effective project management. For the first time Travel Plan targets and modal shift can be directly compared from one organisation to another, from one local authority to another.
iTRACE was first launched in 2005 following requirements set out by Transport for London and the West London Transport Strategy group. It was installed at all 33 London Boroughs. In 2006 iTRACE was awarded "Highly Commended Innovation" in the ACT Commuter Initiative Awards in partnership with Energy Saving Trust.
Local Transport Today (LTT487 07 Feb 08) highlighted how in many areas monitoring failures are undermining the effectiveness of Travel Plans. The article reported on a study by Napier and Loughborough University whom surveyed Development control or travel plan officers from 139 highway authorities in England. This study revealed that many workplace travel plans are failing to deliver the volume of car trip reductions predicted because local authorities are failing to monitor or enforce them.
In 2007 iTRACE was relaunched as a hosted Internet system. It has been adopted by the following UK Local Authorities: Wigan, Milton Keynes, Portsmouth City, Southampton City, Hampshire County and Buckinghamshire County Councils, West Yorkshire, Tyne & Wear and Brighton & Hove.
In 2008 iTRACE was awarded "Travel Planning Innovation of the Year" in the ACT Travelwise Awards.
